According to Alfa Romeo Automobilisimo Storico, the chassis number AR662362 originally corresponds to an Alfa Romeo Duetto Spider (Tipo 105.03) manufactured in Milan on 11th October 1966 and sold to Alfa Romeo INC., Newark, USA on 12 October 1966.
This Duetto remained around the New York area and was owned by Connecticut based marine insurer James T. Cassidy, when in 2009 it was purchased and imported to the UK by Somerset based Robert Perry. Robert is the owner of Rolls Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin and Alfa Romeo restoration company Bensport Limited, and he purchased the Duetto to restore for his wife Alison.
If you are not aware of Robert Perry and Bensport, they are not your run of the mill restoration company – They produce the bespoke aluminium bodied retro classic 'La Sarthe', a limited run of 24 bespoke vehicles built on genuine, fully restored 1950's Type-R Bentley chassis's.
Shipped to the UK from New York in May 2009 with a documented 65,824 miles covered, Bensport commenced a meticulous, four-year nut and bolt restoration. Photographically documented from start to finish, the list of works carried out stretches to three pages long. Nothing was left to chance, every component, engine, gearbox, drivetrain were rebuilt and the car re trimmed, rewired with all electrical components replaced or overhauled.
On completion it was first registered by DVLA on the 17th May 2013 and was put on the road with 65,920 miles covered. It remains in concours condition today having covered just over 3,000 miles since restoration.
This is a great opportunity to own a beautifully restored and completely original specification Duetto that needs nothing but to be enjoyed. Please call for further details or to arrange to view.
