James Hull's major car collection sells to Jaguar Land Rover
Tuesday 29th July 2014
In May of this year we reported on the proposed sale of huge car collection belonging to James Hull. Multi-millionaire Dr Hull made his fortune as an innovator in cosmetic dentistry and in his words spent his free time "traveling all over the world to build the collection."
From Newport in Wales, Dr Hull has collected classic cars from the past 80 years, spending tens of millions of pounds and filling warehouses on his Hertfordshire estate full of historic cars, many with interesting previous owners and too.
Having put the collection up for sale as one lot earlier in the year, with a price tag of £100m - his primary aim was to see them remain in the UK . He has managed to achieve this by agreeing to sell the 554 vehicles to Jaguar Land Rover for an undisclosed sum.
Following the agreement to sell he has commented in the press “I have got to know Jaguar Land Rover well in recent years and they have borrowed cars from the collection for events such as the Mille Miglia and for supporting Jaguar in China. They are the perfect custodians to take the collection forward and I know it is in safe hands.â€
Jaguar's special vehicle operations boss John Edwards said: “We are delighted that Jaguar Land Rover has come to an agreement with James Hull to secure the future of this very significant collection of Jaguar and British cars. We share the same objective as James to keep this unique collection in British hands and we are delighted this agreement secures their custody for the future.â€
