Ultra rare Alfa on the market
Wednesday 4th December 2013
It is possibly one of the most attractive and certainly one of the rarest Alfa Romeos. This beautiful car is Tipo 33 Stradale and car producer from Italy only built 18 for road use. it is thought that less than 10 remain in the world, so owning one would be a massive prize to a serious car collector.
Amazingly an owner of a Tipo 33 Stradale is planning to sell his with the car being advertised on a classic car website from Geneva, Switzerland. It is a 1968 Alfa Romeo, chassis number 750330104 and a previous winner of Best in Class at Pebble Beach after a 2004 restoration.
If a Tipo 33 Stradale's is not interesting enough it's history is - it spent it's early life in Italy until 1984, when collector Pietro Brigato sold it to Kiyoshi Takihana from Japan. By the late 1980s, the car returned to Europe and entered the collection of Count Hubertus von Donhoff. It was then sold to another Japanese collector, who kept it from 1990 until 2004, when a leading American collector bought it and commissioned a comprehensive restoration.
The Alfa was a powerful car in it's time due it's 2.0-liter V8 engine delivering around 230hp with a curb weight of only 700 kg. A high-revving engine (10,000 rpm red line) and six speed gearbox catapulted it from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds topping out at 162mph
These cars rarely come up for sale but it would be a major coup for a serious collector, but they would have to have deep pockets, as it is thought it could well sell for over £2m.
