A strange place to keep your veteran car?
Monday 4th November 2013
If you had a 1911 Vulcan Motor Car, where would you keep it? Well, one owner of such a rare vehicle placed his in his front hall in 1985 and there it stood for 28 years.
Such was his love for the car that he placed it there as an ornament so he could admire it daily and that was exactly what he did for over 10,000 days. There it stood for all to see until he passed away recently.
Now the car is to see the light of day again. The huge front door of the vast entrance hall was opened, the historic car was carefully moved out to the patio in front of the home and subsequently on to Historics at Brooklands for sale in their auction at the end of this month.
This original 15.9hp Vulcan is believed to be one of less than ten worldwide. Manufactured by Vulcan in Southport, Merseyside, in 1902 by brothers Joseph and Thomas Hampson it was a touring car with two seats and a dickie seat.
What makes the car ultra rare and desirable is it's originality – original grey paint, gold coachlining, beige roof, brown leather trim and side screens. Sitting in a dry front hall with the regular dusting any ornament would get has ensured it's continued outstanding condition. Now fully refreshed and running as it should it will surely prove popular to the auction crowd where it is estimated to achive a sale price of between £27,000 to £30,000.
